BB/BMB Undergraduate Advising

undergraduate student meeting with advisor

Advisor Lauren Dalton serves as a sounding board for third year BMB major Francisco Hernandez.

Fostering faculty-student connections

We use a team approach to advising, meaning BB and BMB students will work with all members of the advising team over the course of their undergraduate career on a rotation basis rather than being assigned to just one advisor. We try to be as accessible as possible to students. All members of the BB/BMB advising team are teaching faculty who have earned Ph.D.s in biochemistry and conducted research in the molecular life sciences which enables us to work with our students in different settings.

Choose the right advising session

During the academic year there are two types of advising available to BB and BMB students: drop-in (Virtual by Zoom) and 30-minute appointments (in person with virtual upon request).

Registration and override help form

This form will walk you through the process of obtaining an override for Biochemistry & Biophysics courses (BB XXX). Please complete the entire form. You will receive an email from the BB Staff when the override is in place or if additional information is required. We can only issue overrides for BB courses for the upcoming or current term (not BI, MB BHS or CH--reach out to their departments).

Research and independent study for credit

Undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of independent study credits with BB faculty members. Students need to obtain faculty permission and then a departmental override to register for these credit opportunities: research (BB 401), thesis (BB 403) reading and conference (BB 405) and internship credits (BB 410).

BB undergrad listserv

is open to Oregon State University students and faculty and is how we communicate with our biochemistry undergraduate community. If you have problems registering for the listserv, please contact Dr. Kari van Zee (kari.van.zee@oregonstate.edu)
