Lizzy Toll, BMB Class of 2023, studies chromatin dynamics for her honors thesis under the mentorship of Professor Michael Freitag, BB. Lizzy plans to become a high school science teacher and has gained teaching experience through her role as an undergraduate teaching assistant for several different BB courses.
As an undergraduate in the biochemistry and biophysics department, you will have extensive opportunities to gain real-world experience outside the classroom. Between 2018 and 2022, 74% of all BB and BMB majors participated in undergraduate research, either in an internship off-campus or in one of OSU's many research labs. This is an excellent way to expand your learning in biochemistry and beyond.
Biochemistry is inherently interdisciplinary and our majors take full advantage of being at an R1 research university to engage in research opportunities all across campus. They are making important contributions in areas such as drug discovery, ocean biogeochemistry, hemp genomics and protein engineering for therapeutics.
With a degree from the BB department, your future is wide open. Our program offers excellent preparation for med schools, pharmacy school, graduate school, biotech positions and countless others.
